The Division of General Surgical Research is a vital aspect of our program, even though the pediatric surgery fellowship is, of course, principally geared toward clinical experience and clinical research. Nevertheless, the 7,782 square feet of laboratory space and a very active basic science presence within the Department of Surgery are a strong asset to all clinical programs. The laboratories are well-equipped with analytical tools and have technical personnel who are attuned to interactions with surgical resident-investigators.
The faculty support the fellow in his or her research efforts, with a goal of producing at least one journal submission during the two-year period and encouraging submission of abstracts to pediatric surgical meetings, including the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics Surgical Section.
